A Boy, a bar and a guitar (the somewhat kinda sorta true story of Michatucky)

Once upon a time in the not so distant past a lonely, broken hearted boy found a bar. Tucked away off the road the bar, really it was more of a saloon, was only distinguishable by a small neon sign. Needing a beer and looking for a little unfamiliar company the boy wandered in. To his surprise in side this bar the boy found 2 beautiful, bouncing, brunette bartenders and a kick ass live band so up to the bar he went. “What’ll it be?” said the bouncing bartender with the nice rack. “PBR draft please.” said the boy. Seconds later in front of him stood a glorious pint of PBR in a frosted mug. The boy looked up and said to the bartender, “Is this heaven?” “No, this is Grandville…..dumb ass!”

As the night went on our boy sat, drinking PBR and the occasional Jagar bomb, listening to the music, singing along when he knew the words and soon forgetting what had been troubling him. Days turned to weeks and weeks to months and before he knew it the boy had become a regular. Stopping in, closing the bar, getting to know the bands that came through and always…forgetting what troubled him.

Then one day as the boy walked through the doors looking forward to seeing a band that would travel up from Kentucky to play at the bar he noticed something different. The band….it was different. The singer was the same…but the band….different. Why? What happened? As he took his place at the bar he ordered a PBR and spun around to listen. And what he heard……

What he heard was a guitar. What he saw was an attitude. What he witnessed was a performance unlike he’d seen in the bar up to this point. After the 1st set was over he needed to talk to the guitar, get the story, and find out how its music ended up here, tonight. The boy bought the guitar a drink, a Jagar bomb, and the proceeded to talk…..about music. “Well I’m no musician.” Said the boy, “But I know when it’s good, and you’re good.”

Over the next several months as the guitar continued to visit the bar and the two became good friends. Then during one of the guitars visits…..he met a girl, left Kentucky, said good bye to the band and moved to Michigan. The boy was glad the guitar moved closer but was sad he didn’t get to hear him play anymore. Then, one night, the boy was at the bar and had an idea. A drunken text message was sent and it went something like this……”I don’t have any talent but we should start a band!” The boy from Michigan and the guitar from Kentucky….the band Michatucky.

It’s only fitting Michatucky made its first “official” appearance at the bar where the members met and where the idea was formulated.
